Trick-Or-Treat, Make Sure A Fun Halloween Is A Safe Halloween!

It’s that magical and exiting time of the year once more for hungry goblins, elves and witches, and while just about everyone enjoys trick or treating, it’s important to remember that Halloween can be one of the most dangerous holidays for kids of all ages. Pedestrian injuries are the most common injuries to kids and teens on Halloween. Following are some simple and easy-to-follow rules to help make this holiday as safe as possible for all: Make flashlights available to both the children and the accompanying adults, and choose brightly colored costumes and/or reflective patches to increase visibility. Avoid masks if possible because they can limit or block eyesight. Parents or responsible adults should accompany children at all times on their neighborhood rounds – no child or group of children should ever go trick or treating alone. Walk only on sidewalks, and obey all pedestrian and traffic laws, do not assume the right of way. Drivers may have trouble seeing Trick-Or-Treaters, especially if they wear dark costumes. Just because one car stops, does not mean all will stop – careless drivers represent the major threats…Read More

Reflections On The 4th Of July

As we celebrated the 243rd Anniversary of our Declaration of Independence, I reflected on how proud I am to be both an American and a Lawyer. While we all laugh at the many jokes constantly directed at the legal profession (and some of them are funny), it is important on every 4th of July to remember that many of our country’s forefathers were lawyers. Indeed, of the initial ten Amendments to the United States Constitution, seven (Amendments 1,2,4,5-8) deal directly with legal right. Four of the five members of our first Continental Congress entrusted with developing the Declaration of Independence were lawyers – Roger Sherman, John Adams, Robert Livingston and Thomas Jefferson. Two of them, Adams and Jefferson, went on to become Presidents of our county. And James Madison, the “Father of the Constitution” and the “Bill of Rights” (and our fourth president as well) was also a lawyer. In fact, 25 of the nation’s 45 Presidents have been lawyers. So I am indeed honored to practice this great profession, and to have the ability to fight for people’s legal rights and those denied the due…Read More

Happy Birthday America

Have A Fun And SAFE Halloween!

It’s that magical time of the year again for hungry goblins and elves to roam our neighborhoods, and while Halloween is one of our most enjoyable evenings each year, we need to be aware that it can also be one of the most dangerous as well. Here are some easy-to-follow rules to keep this fun evening as safe as possible for trick-or-treaters of all ages: Parents or responsible adults should accompany children at all times – no child or group of children should ever go trick-or-treating alone. Careless drivers represent the major threat for trick-or-treaters on Halloween night. Make sure to walk only on sidewalks, obeying all pedestrian and traffic laws. Children and the accompanying adults should be easily visible. Carry flashlights, and make sure that everyone wears brightly colored costumes and/or reflective patches to increase visibility for the drivers. Children should be warned ahead of time to not consume any goodies while trick-or-treating; they must wait until the treats have been taken home and inspected by parents or adults in charge.
